An appeal in these uncertain times

Our Wilderness Leadership Guides who many of you may have met on trail are a special group of people with a collective 100+ years of experience of taking people safely into the Wilderness. Passionate conservationists, amazing human beings and the backbone of our organisation.

In the sixty plus years the Wilderness Leadership School Trust has been in operation, we have never experienced anything quite like the Covid 19 (Coronavirus) outbreak we are currently dealing with. These are unprecedented and uncertain times.

Sadly, we have experienced a devastating spate of cancellations for trails over the coming months and all our immediate trails (Late March / April being the very start of our normally busy season) have had to be cancelled due to travel restrictions. The impact on our cash flow and immediate future is very concerning. We have always worked on a model of trail income covering our core staff costs.

Our single biggest concern is our guides, people, who if you have met on trail before, you will know just how special these individuals are. They are the backbone of our organisation and their collective skill, experience and knowledge is virtually irreplaceable. Paying their salaries, keeping them employed and ensuring we can still provide them with their local accommodation at our head quarters in Durban is our number one priority.

As a non-profit, we have never had to go out and appeal for funding to survive. But these are unprecedented times. We're appealing to you the public, our past trailists and supporters to help us keep this legacy alive during these difficult times by making a donation towards our guide salary fund, allowing us to keep all our guides employed until the situation settles down and trails return to normal.

Any amount donated will be doubled as a credit towards a future trail with the Wilderness Leadership School. Or for straight, unencumbered donations we can issue a section 18A Tax certificate (essentially making your donation tax deductible)

You can make a donation below, safely and securely with credit or debit card via below
